Cultures on Collision Course

Look at this link, and tell me if I am crazy or what!

64lb fish named Benson died.

And he/she is featured in the Obituary section of the current issue of the Economist.

The piece was carefully written, the craft and space deserving of queens and kings.

I don’t know if I should have a higher respect for Britain’s love of this particular fish (national treasure) or

I should start challenging my ignorance and insanity for even reading and reacting to this

(placement of the news in a serious global economic-oriented publication).

A few paragraphs down, we found “she reminded some of Marilyn Monroe or Raquel Welch”.

I am fascinated by this phenomenon whether it’s smart fish or pet fish.

But I picked up the issue because of its headline: Emerging economies in Asia are faring well, and pulling ahead

but can they sustain.

Then came this Obituary.

I was expecting to see Kennedy, who started the Special Olympics “if not participating to win, at least, let me bravely attempt”.

OK, I get it. The connection, the shared moment of grief. Yes, yes, ” she lived her life, like a candle in the wind”.

Got it!

Wonder if there will be an outpouring of grief (catharsis) during State Funeral. I know for sure, the guards won’t blink.
