Cinderello release

The shoe thrower will soon be released on good conduct.

When I heard of shoe (one), I thought of Cinderella, Khrushchev (who pounded his shoe to restore order and command attention),

and after Googling, I found Chief Minister of India Karnataka, also got a shoe in the face.

When going through metal detectors ( with the other shoe bagged as evidence ), our thrower just has to take off one shoe.

Too bad they don’t have snow in Iraq or India. Throwing snow balls would be fun and one can get away with it (with good lawyers).

My wife when fist came to California got cut off while driving. Too angry to reflex properly, she held a thumbs up to the offensive driver (this must have drawn quite a puzzle from the gal).

With current Early Release trend,  we might see Bernie (Worldcom), Skilling (Enron) and Madoff walk in our life time.

There are levels of disagreement: debate, dialogue and demonstration.

Schools teach us how to debate. The Media tries to do a three-way split screen with the moderator in the middle.

(incidentally, while MSNBC was showing the Wake in Boston, Fox Business went on with their Happy Hour segment.

The contrast was even more obvious if you punch up a multi-screen on your DirecTV).

Dialogue is the most desirable form: recognizing our differences, showing that we listened and understood, yet respectfully disagreed.

Demonstration involves a movement, which inevitably disrupts and destroys (Tiananmen Square, Tehran post-election) public property. The herd has a mind of their own.

Then, we got this shoe-throwing gesture of protest.

In South Korea, we witnessed on live TV politicians punching each other out.

It’s best to have them into a studio, all wired for audio, and show them on a split screen . It’s safer, more civilized, and forcing people to focus on the issues. ( and when it’s heated up, go to commercials.) War is the ultimate form of conflict resolution.

Wars don’t just go away. There are tolls and clean-up afterward. Hidden costs. (Iraqi refugees are slowly making their way to the US, land of the free). Somalian gang activities have been reported in some US cities.

Among unintended consequences, there maybe some good. For instance, in Afghanistan, the poppies growers will constantly be on the run, disrupting the flow of illegal substance out of their country.

I admire the Microsoft guy who started Reading Room for everyone there.

It’s time some one picks up the torch from the Christian Scientists to improve literacy in developing world.

Pretty soon, we will see  “tablet” which can show more than just the Ten Commandments.

I hope our shoe thrower had a chance to read while inside. Because upon release, walking out of jail with only one shoe on, he won’t have time to catch up on 9-month worth of reading. Cinderella is back to scrubbing the floor with no Prince’s bail-out.
