On this day (9/11), like everyone else, I thought I could not find a silver lightning… that is, until I read about one shot instead of two is sufficient to prevent H1N1. Go doc go.
Coming in October at the Walgreen near you.
When I grow up, I kept hearing that misery seeks company.
H1N1 + Recession = ?
No wonder we would rather deal with 090909 numerology trivial than processing the last stage of grief on 091109.
On Newsweek, one will read about “The runaway Christian.”

The 17-year-old Ohio Muslim girl in this case, went through a religious conversion on her own, then ran away to Florida, and along the way while “finding herself and found Jesus”, brought with her a host of lawyers, inter-state police and legal clerks , social worker, and inter-faith clerics. She is in one stroke becomes the antithetic poster child of Church-State separation.
Her shot at fame. Greyhound should have checked I.D’s before letting teenagers aboard. That way, at least the brewing controversy gets to stay within state boundaries.
This brought to mind Janet Reno and the Gonzalez custody that spanned two nations and a lot of press coverage.
In my humble opinion, religion should never split up families in the first place (that’s why at least, on campus, college students can have a table to proselytize during orientation: Black Caucus, Gay Pride, Campus Crusade, Frat and sorority rush etc…, but stay in your assigned table).
The fight has always been to carve out more right for the individual over the group, one group over another (religious or cultural),
and in this case, out-of-state custody (Jodi Foster in NYC would hail a cab and get a “taxi driver”‘s reply : are you talking to me? ).
The fact that we spend time, grief and effort to let the legal process play itself out (if it drags a bit longer, she will turn 18, or that the press deems the story no longer newsworthy , then show is over) is a testimony in itself to the American tradition of respecting a person’s belief, old and young, strangely looking or well dressed. In their “pursuit of happiness”,
no one should fly any airplane into any building out of disagreement. Nor should any one take away anyone else’ child without parental consent. (Remember when you were Seventeen, Dancing Queen?) At least, while in the care of a Floridian social worker, she will get her flu shot. Virus don’t discriminate. They just plague you, Pope or Pharaoh.
H1N1 + Recession = Misery.
I thought of buying a condolence card today for the families of those who were killed in NYC. Sorry for your loss.
New York and LA both got more than their fair shares of mishaps. Look at it this way, Chicago ranked 1st in Stress.
Yet they still shake it off, and go on bidding for the 2016 Olympic. Windy City always goes against the wind.
And Chicago will prove itself worthy of the Olympian tradition: conquering adversities, and rising to the challenge.
