– thinking = + outcome?

I was confused when I read about a study in Australia which discovered positive results out of negative thinking.

Research subjects were first induced with sad mood. And those who were in this group could ID quickly some urban legends as untrue , or could defend their position better etc…

This brings to mind schema . One always walks into a situation with a set of expectations e.g. a supermarket with lots of items on sale, a hair salon with barbers who are supposed to know what they are doing  etc…

This study did not validate anything except that a negative person can always find what is  wrong in a situation to reinforce the cycle (In Blue Velvet, David Lynch showed a perfectly manicured suburban lawn with insects underneath through rack-focusing , or a National Geographic documentary which shows what lies underneath our skin using extreme zoom lenses).

How about turning Negative into Positive?  In sales, we use this opportunity to “sell the objection”. The USS New York uses those steel from the 9/11 wreckage to build a sea-worthy vessel.

One doesn’t need to invite negative, because negative will always creep invite themselves in. Of course, the media have been culprits in reinforcing this doomsday version of reality (camera man likes fire shots, because it makes for good visual).

We need to trench fight every single moment (less salt, sugar and fat, for instance) to stay positive. After all, the future is on steroid, and waits for no one.  Each of us has to be in the business of looking out for the next big thing, as if we were running a mini IdeaLab. Stay positive, you will get positive vibes. Hang out or chat with happy people to rub off some of theirs (When Harry met Sally : “I will have what she has”).

Let’s turn the vicious cycle into virtuous cycle, crumble steel into charting steel.

I am listening to “Reason to believe” by Lionel Richie. He looks good on the CD cover, given his age and tenure (since the Commodores). I went to his concert back in the early 80’s, and saw Tina Turner opened for him. She herself did not show the effect of aging at all.

Besides being a blessing in disguise to others, positive people radiate, and don’t have the time or the inclination for negative thinking. Let “misery find its own companies”.  That’s its lot in life. And may very well be a short one, despite some  “bragging points” listed in the Australian study .
