Plenty of O2

World leaders are meeting and aware that “this is it”, our generation’s chance to make a difference in the atmosphere so we can carry on in the blogosphere.

It reminds me of the Bee Gee’s “Stay alive” in the 70’s. Boomers are not going to fade away in assisted-living arrangement (still have to drive up to Canada for drug refill, or down to Mexico for an eye exam – one or two) noiselessly.

Hint: try audiology. It’s a growing sector. Can you hear me now?

In all seriousness, we have wrecked the place after half-a-century long party. If Rome were around today, it would be long ruined by comparable standard. I remember when news of AIDS first exploded back in the 80’s, and how that impacted the conservative mood in the country (Heard a lot of Sodom Gomorrah fire and brimstone fund-raising pitches by preachers who practiced safe sex, behind locked door, but outside of marriage).

They showed Philadelphia on PBS yesterday. This 5th largest city in America, with houses boarded up and ship yards abandoned, and workers “retooled” for the 21st century job requirement (weightlessness for inter-galactic tourism? Virgin group isn’t hiring since there aren’t enough interests in this Recession to tour the Moon).

The Founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw this new Rust belt situated right at the cradle of freedom. At least some green initiatives are currently in the works there.

Here is the thing: we know when and if America is doing well, by counting how many visa application PhD’s try to apply for to come and even to stay on. Brain drain for their countries of origin is brain gain for America. When this doesn’t happen, then we have to question the magnet.

I never quite understood why America has to over extend itself in world affairs. And now I realize even with the VP’s experience and our Sec of State’s put together, we still don’t have enough face time for world leaders this week in Denmark. It’s lonely at the top, like the scene of  a house owner mopping up the morning after a wild party (Madness under The Royal Palms?). Still, the US must keep its pledge:  17% reduction in remission. It translates into a lot of Smart cars, first given away as day-time TV prizes, then, as loss-leaders in automobile show rooms. We clean up, not only for polar bears or Santa’s sledge but also for us, who need O2. Can’t walk around or ride around in masks forever. That pisses off Revlon and friends, whose campaigns advocate smooth skin and silky hair.

Is it too much to ask for ordinary women with hair, in dress and showing their lovely skin. Or does it belong to Woodstock’s flashback , itself an attempt to go back to Eden. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (assumes the inalienable right to breathe, which assumes there is plenty of O2). Denmark is pushing for units of energy consumption per person. That exhibition of responsiveness and leadership should put us to shame. What an “inconvenient truth”.  We are like a college girl with $50 in her pocket, on a Greyhound bus across the country. Got to ration her spending or resort to panhandling. Guess which nations will eventually have to bear the brunt? That’s right, those never-going-to-be-developed nations. We should be feeling guilty, instead of shooting the messenger, or doubting the data.

When nations can rally behind this common cause, we don’t need to wait every four years for the Olympics.

Champions in training everyday. There is a guy who put dead leaves to use, turning them into disposable plates.

In Asia, we use green leaves to wrap sticky rice all the time. Dust comes to dust. Now, dead leaves are recycled, good enough for party mixers.Mindset + technique + will to make it happen. Wonder what they use in Copenhagen this week.

Here in Palm Beach, party goers would drop dead seeing dead leaves made into plates. It’s against their grain.

Just like 6 years ago, at the Oscar, early adopters/actors showed up in Hybrid automobiles, albeit chauffeured.

At least, we have and can learn from artists and scientists who dare to call it as it is. Can’t go on like this forever.
