Futuristic city connected by cell towers, satellites, data centers, and smartphones

Customizing the globalizing

A few decades ago, we were discussing (as the internet had barely emerged on the scene) “the death of distance”…

At the same time, Clinton had a good run with “the information superhighway” ..so good that Al Gore had time to talk “truth”, albeit “inconveniently” and eventually sold his network to al jazeera whose focus now is on the Mid East.

444 days again? More helicopters and drones pls.

Today, Youtube and Tiktok, Netflix and Faceboo, X and Instagram… partition into paid and ad-sponsored and ad-supported programing. “Brought to you by” ads made possible for individual (8 billion and counting) to customize and atomize what, who, when, how, why they chose to connect, curate and convey. In short, citizen journalism is in the making (G Floyd video).

But not just yet. Not until linguistic AI became proficient with most languages of the world. Then translation would come close to closing the loop and we can replay the Coke commercial (I’d like to teach the world to sing…) and Quincy Jones’ We Are the World.

For now, it’s way easy with Messenger, facebook and facetime…(my friend does it all in CAPS). He “shouted” at me 🙂 as if I am digitally deaf (due to all the bombing).

That “shout out” friend, whom I had lost touch since High School. Today, 51 years and counting, we re-connected, via not just voice, but he even sent a music video.

A long lost song. Song in my youth he knows I would appreciate hearing.

Then in exchange, I will have door-delivery my collected blogs (I can hardly do away with analog) in print material. Something about books, the pages and the smell of old pine wood that last.

Voila. You and me and technology, traveling the land….

I’d like to buy the world an AI…to keep us company.

We are the children…we are the world…to make a better day for you and me.

The easier technology for people to connect, the less time we have swimming in data deluge. Be selective and smart in choosing. Time is evil, and tech billionaires with associated algorithms know us, know how to nudge and recommend how to complete our sentences and thoughts. To tech, time=$

I for once try to race against the clock. As if citizen journalism also got deadlines at 6PM.

Kid comes back from school, asking for p&j sandwich and milk.

Gotta go. Love to buy y’all something to drink in these 100 degrees weather.

BTW I sure will see this friend face to face at some point in the near future. It’s my motivation to hit the gym and stay alive…. for Saturday Night Fever….

For now, skip the ads, ride the tail of messenger and float in fb feed…

Stay connected. Be kind…rewind (oops, no longer a VHS age, nor is it a Blu-Ray era..all streaming now).

Customizing the globalizing (of content and subtitles).
