An ad. A scare. A nuclear prospect.
Vietnam. Three-Mile-Island. And just now, Tucker’s warning.
The ad BTW was with the help of Tony Swartz, same ghost writer for The Art of the Deal.
In Vietnam, we heard tough talks, and talks and talks.
People died by the wayside, stripped by the wayside and mourned by the wayside.
Peace, little girl! No count-down, please.
Enough is enough. Let them count, in class, not on the roadside counting roadkill and meltdown dead.
A clip showing a Japanese man in kimono, walking a little girl then all of a sudden, Nagasaki.
Sudden death.
As they quipped in Vietnam, “dut phim”.
The movie stopped suddenly. Broken brackets.
No more splicing, no intermission, no ending.
Just stopped.
No more.
No counting.
No accounting.
Just stopped.
Nuked. From that point on, only mourning, regrets and revision.
Academics would write, publish or perish.
Admins would analyze and cut cost.
Life goes on on the other side of death and destruction, leaving victims uncompensated and wandered aimless.
Even to the point of blaming themselves, for not being at their best at the very last.
Low-yield, high-yield.
Lord, give us this day our daily bread…and forgive our sins…..
Just because there was a button, doesn’t mean one has to press it, a safe, crack it, a lock, open it.
Leave it. Live life. Peace little girl. Count the daisies. Nothing on Earth is more beautiful. But first live.
An ad. A scare. A tactic. An election (63) to remember. Only doomsday was much far away, where no one even knew where Vietnam was on the map. Although shown only once, its impact has been long lasting. Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City were spared. Now the prospect of a nuke war is still hanging in the air, as if we never learned as humanity never did on self-destruction.
Count forward, not down.
